Is EFCT right for us?
EFCT can be helpful if you’re feeling stuck in the same arguments, emotionally distant, or unsure how to reach each other without things escalating or shutting down. It’s particularly supportive for couples who care deeply about their relationship but feel caught in patterns they don’t fully understand.
EFT may be a good fit if:
You feel close at times, but disconnected or alone during conflict
Conversations quickly turn into arguments, silence, or withdrawal
One or both of you feel unheard, unwanted, or “too much”
Trust has been shaken and you want to rebuild emotional safety
You’re navigating life changes such as becoming parents, neurodiversity, illness, or shifts in intimacy
You don’t need to be in crisis to begin. EFT works just as well for couples who want to strengthen their connection as it does for those feeling unsure about the future of their relationship.
If you’re considering couples therapy but aren’t sure where to begin, you’re welcome to book a free initial consultation. This is a short, no-obligation conversation where you can ask questions, share what’s been happening, and get a feel for whether working together feels right.
What is Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT)?
Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) is a gentle, structured approach to couples therapy that focuses on emotional connection, safety, and the bond between you. It’s based on attachment theory — the understanding that, as humans, we’re wired to seek closeness, reassurance, and emotional safety in our closest relationships. When that bond feels threatened or unreliable, couples can become stuck in painful patterns of conflict, distance, or misunderstanding.
EFT is an evidence-based model, meaning it has been extensively researched and shown to help couples strengthen their relationships. Decades of international research show that around 70–75% of couples experience significant improvement, with many moving from distress to feeling more secure and connected, and these changes are shown to last over time. Rather than teaching scripts or communication tricks, EFT works at a deeper level — helping you understand what’s happening emotionally between you, so real and lasting change becomes possible.
